Marriage

Matthew 19:4-6

Jesus (said), “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.

In the Catholic Church, when a couple decides to get married, they have to undergo preparation for their Marriage.  The idea behind the Preparation is to ensure that the couple are empowered, affirmed and supported in this wonderful enterprise that they may journey together through good times and bad, sickness and health as the honour and love each other as husband and wife.

You are a Catholic and want to Marry in the Church? What to do?

Make contact with the Parish!  The priest or deacon will first ascertain that you are free to marry through filling a form.  If there is any impediment to deal with, he will guide you.  (It is better that you do not decide on a date before talking to the priest as there may be many things to address first).  Once that is cleared, your will be put on Preparatory Course.  Please note that each parish has a different course depending on the resources available, and the courses are not “scary” no are you made to ‘jump over the hoops” stuff.  If anything, most things you have to do tend to be very informative and empowering.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss the Sacrament of Marriage with our parish priest.
